Goalkeeper Training

Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout September and October at Island Crest Park grass field.

In another break from the norm, bringing further innovation to youth player development, MIFC has hired Joseph Mondello as Director of Goalkeeper Tactics. Since the club's attacking playing style begins with and heavily involves the goalie, the club has decided to innovate how the goalkeepers are taught.

In this newly defined role, there will be a much heavier emphasis on actions that are in alignment with how goalies will interact with teammates within the team environment. These actions will not just be shot stopping actions; they will include distribution with feet and hands, resets such as goal kicks and communication.

Joseph will offer goalkeeping clinics on Mercer Island throughout September and October. These clinics are free and open to all MIFC goalkeepers and players ages 9 and up who want to build their skils and learn more about the position. Clinics take place at Island Crest Park grass field on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout September and October.

MI Boys & Girls Club

Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club offers two recreational soccer programs:

Futsol: Futsol is a type of indoor soccer played on a basketball court with small nets. Unlike indoor soccer, which is typically played on artificial turf with walls similar to a hockey rink, futsol uses out of bounds lines, like outdoor soccer, which requires greater ball control from players. The MIBGC Futsol Program offers training from the professionals at the International Academy of Soccer followed by scrimmages. The program runs for 4 weeks in December, between the end of the outdoor season and Winter Break.

Spring Soccer: The MIBGC offers spring soccer for boys and girls. This program mirrors the MIFC fall program in that the youngest players receive clinic-style training (like MIFC Microsoccer) and progress to gradually larger teams and fields until they play full-sided soccer (like MIFC Recreational soccer).
