MIFC Soccer Program Options
For over 50 years Mercer Island FC has been providing high quality soccer experiences for Mercer Island youth. We offer programs starting with MIcrosoccer for 5-6 year olds, Recreational Soccer for 7-18 year olds, and Select Soccer for 9-18 year olds. Our sister club, Eastside FC, offers Premier soccer to Mercer Island kids aspiring to play at the highest levels. Eastside FC is the only Premier club recognized by Washington Youth Soccer in our community. There are a few differences between the programs. As a player moves through the different program offerings, the level of competition, the time commitment, and the associated costs increase.
Microsoccer is a two-month (September-October), community based program introducing the youngest players to the sport of soccer. Clinic style training led by soccer professionals are held two nights (drop-in style) a week. Clinic & Games are on Saturday and follow the US Soccer Federation guidelines of 4v4 games with no goalies.
Recreational soccer is a 3 month (late August to early November) program for players U8-18. It is also community based with no tryouts. At the younger ages, the focus is on expanding the player's knowledge of the game and basic skills. The teams compete against other Eastside Youth Soccer Association (EYSA) club teams from Bellevue, Lake Hills, Newport Hills, and Issaquah. The older Recreational teams play in Washington State Youth Soccer Association District 2 against teams from the greater Eastside as far north as Snohomish.
Select soccer is the highest competitive level of soccer within MIFC. Starting at U10, Select teams are formed based on tryouts, play 2-3 summer tournaments, compete in the North Puget Sound League in the fall, and typically enter one of the post-season WYS state tournaments. Teams play a 6-9 month season, and may travel outside the Puget Sound area. While the expectation is that soccer will be the player's main priority during the season, Select soccer is a good fit for the athlete who wants to play soccer at a higher level and still participate in other sports or activities.
XL soccer is the highest level of competition in youth soccer within our organization. XL soccer is year round, requires a greater time commitment (players are expected to prioritize soccer over other sports), and sometimes includes out-of-state travel.
